Seiko SKX013 – The Modifiable Mini SKX007

Not many watches can win the hearts of many, but the Seiko SKX013 seems to be an excellent candidate. Being much smaller than other diver watches, and a smaller version of its famous big brother, the SKX007, the SKX013 took the world of watches by storm, especially catching the attention of those in the modding community.

If you’re interested in the SKX013, particularly for its modding capabilities, here are a few parts of the watch you can modify:

1. The Crystal

The crystal you’ll find on the SKX013 is made of hardlex crystal. While it is stronger than mineral, it is still very much prone to scratching. Because of this, replacing it with a sapphire crystal is a good idea.

That said, the original crystal found on the SKX013 has a beveled edge design to it, giving it a unique look when seen at a certain angle. This also gives an illusion that there are more markers on the dial than there are.

2. The Dial

Like that of the SKX007, the dial of the SKX013 enjoys a traditional design of matte black with white accents.

This color palette, while not the most eye-catching set we’ve seen, works, staying true to Seiko’s way of function over form. However, that doesn’t mean that the watch isn’t beautiful. The hands (which are modifiable as well) are big, and so are the white markers that contrast the black dial.

While we did mention that the colors of the dial might not be the most interesting, the combination does make sure that the watch can be worn for any occasion. Whether you’re going out to work or a romantic dinner, the watch will easily fit in, keeping your look sleek, yet not too fancy.

3. The Bezel and Bezel Inserts

The bezel found on the SK013 is, once again, like that on the SKX007. With the white-accented black-colored ring, the bezel fits in perfectly with the design of the dial itself.

When it comes to modding, you’re given the option to not only change the design of the bezel but even the color. Just think about pairing a black dial with a golden bezel. Pure luxury, don’t you think?

4. The Crown

Unlike the SKX007’s 3 o’clock crown, the SKX013 sports the 4 o’clock crown.

While it might not be the most comfortable position in the world, it does give the SKX013 a unique look—one that cannot be confused with any other watch. That said, the main reason you would want to modify the crown is to add an accent color to the watch.

5. Other Modifiable Parts

If we were to list out every part you could modify about the SKX013, we’d be here all day. Instead, here are a few more things you can change about the watch: the case, movements, chapter rings, gaskets, springs, case, and so much more.
